The European Payments Initiative (EPI) is supported by 16 European banks and merchant service providers. Its objective is to create a payment solution tailored for Europe. By leveraging the continent’s instant account-to-account payments infrastructure, EPI aims to enhance efficiency and eliminate intermediaries in the payment process, enabling next-generation payments for consumers and merchants across all retail transactions. Currently, EPI’s Wero digital wallet supports person-to-person (P2P) and person-to-professional (P2Pro) payments. E-commerce and point-of-sale payments will follow soon, along with the possibility of offering attractive value-added services.
